Welcome to high school!  I LOVE science and LOVE teaching, so I know we are going to have a fantastic year!!  Be ready to put those thinking caps on and let’s dive in!  High school is a bit different than Middle School, so expect to have more homework and tougher grading on assignments.

Week 1:

August 18th-19th:

Wednesday — 1st day of school!!!  Yes, I am one of those people that get very excited about school starting, it is one of my favorite days 🙂  Today you will get a brief introduction to science!!! We will start with a couple of my expectations — how we enter and leave the classroom, being excused to go to the restroom, sharpening pencils….etc.  We will complete a SCAVENGER HUNT — these are all important information, safety rules and equipment you will find in the classroom.

  • Daily Learning Objective (DLO): Students will be able to find important information, safety rules and equipment throughout the room.
  • Homework (I will be abbreviating this with: HW) tonight!!  Look over the classroom policies and expectations with your parents and get the last page filled out and signed.  You will also need to answer some questions on the back of your scavenger hunt. (DUE TOMORROW!)
    • You will also need to make sure you have a 3 ring binder with at least 5 dividers by MONDAY!!  This will be a grade in the gradebook!

Thursday: Q’s on Homework? Turn in HW;  Go over classroom expectations; Safety Rules review; Acid in the Eye demonstration; Watch this EPIC cheesy safety video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjJz85bQqdM; Set up Science Safety Videos!  Materials needed today, practice Monday and shoot on Tuesday

  • DLO: SWBAT (Students will be able to…) describe what proper safety in the classroom looks like
    • SWBAT identify incorrect lab procedures
  • HW: To finish your lab safety worksheet (if you didn’t finish it in class)
